Pre-E3 2011: The Old Republic: Most Anticipated. Period.

What title is without a doubt the most anticipated title of E3? Star Wars the Old Republic. There is no question. Millions of people are waiting, impatiently, expecting a release date at E3. It is very unlikely that they will get their wish, but the anticipation is so thick that it could tear a rift in space-time.

I predict that we will get some interesting new information, but the release date window will remain and we can expect the game somewhere between September and December.

Over 1.5 million people signed up to beta test TOR. Millions of people have been watching this game since 2008 and still do so religiously. They can’t get enough. Bioware setup a Pre-Launch Guild System on the official site and nearly 40,000 guilds have been created. The game has not even released yet.

The SWTOR community forum is so massive that moderators have had to create entirely new posts regularly (closing the original) just to keep the thread sizes down. Nearly 5 million posts have been created on the community forum since Oct 2008. That is just the English forum. There is a French and German forum.

This is the next generation story-driven MMO. Your character and every NPC with dialogue has a voice-over. You won’t read dialogue in TOR. You will live it. This has never been done.

It will not only be a massive in landscape and replay value, it will literally be massive. I’ve heard some people estimate that it will be larger than 30GB. Possibly approaching 50GB or more. We’ll see.

The Old Republic is so massive that it has been said that most areas will be larger than those in World of Warcraft. There are 17 confirmed planets and players expect more to be released. The four origin worlds are about half the size of Kalimdor, but they are the smallest worlds in TOR. Even if each world is only half the size of Kalimdor, then that means that there is enough landscape to fill about 8.5 Kalimdor sized zones.

Oh and I almost forgot to mention: there is space combat in The Old Republic. That means even more real estate.

Update: I’ve been told that the game features 16 novels worth of writing.

TOR may be the largest, most anticipated game to ever appear at E3.

Other titles to keep an eye on: Battlefield 3, Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, Mass Effect 3, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Guild Wars 2, Uncharted 3 and Duke Nukem Forever.
