Mojang's 0x10c, EA's Poo Award, Aion F2P

On April 11th Aion will be free-to-play and you can download the client now to get ready. We will be streaming Aion live at our Twitch.TV on the 11th. Vanguard will be going free-to-play this summer.

Those with an active subscription of Star Wars: The Old Republic are now able to invite 25 of their friends for a seven day trial. TOR offered up another free-to-play weekend for new players. That trial period ends at 5:00PM AEST April 9.

Mojang and Notch’s newly announced possibly-to-be online (with monthly charge) space travel game called 0x10c is slightly reminiscent of Eve Online. Their may be seamless space-to-planet transitions. Seamless transitions are relatively new to games but have been done before (Evochron Mercenary and Infinity Universe). That doesn’t mean they’re not awesome!

Check out Infinity Universe’s seamless transitions:

Minecraft 1.2.5 is officially released. Check here for the change log. Changes include: shift-click support for furnaces, fixes for chat crashes and changes to cat behavior.

Electronic Arts has received the 2012 Golden Poo award from Consumerist for being the Worst Company in America. Rightfully so! Well, I wouldn’t say the worst company ever but they have a bad reputation in gaming for valid reasons. Back in 2004 EA was sued by employees for unpaid overtime. Read Forbe’s Paul Tassi’s thoughts on the pre-win and Erik Kain’s post-win thoughts.

Secret World is now accepting pre-orders.

The release of Elder Scrolls: Skyrim is very close. Look for it on November 11th. Bethesda has revealed the their are 280 perks in Skyrim. Damn that is a lot of perks, plus you get dragon shouts, magic etc. Bethesda has released a new video ‘The Sound of Skyrim‘ detailing information about the music and voice-acting. It includes in-game footage that we haven’t seen before.

Check out the free-to-play title Mechwarrior Online. Also in case you somehow haven’t heard take a look at Hawken. It will blow your mind.

Grand Theft Auto 5 has been announced and here is the trailer. Let’s hope that those who get butt hurt about 9/11 and jets in video games don’t prevent us from flying them in GTA5. GTA5 will have multiplayer and will be set in Los Santos. Rockstar is releasing Max Payne 3 in March 2012.

DC Universe Online is now free to play. Lineage 2 is going F2P later this year. Somehow I doubt very many people care.

Bioware is releasing information on a “secret title” in the near future. I’m going to make a shot in the dark and guess that it’s a new Jade Empire.

The Fallout: New Vegas fan film series Nuka Break is now at Episode 5. Catch up or check it out.

I will give you at least one great reason to attend Blizzcon. Foo Fighters will be performing. But Blizzard says don’t expect a Titan discussion. It’s likely that we won’t be seeing Blizzard’s new MMO anytime soon.

EA held a 1.6 million dollar Battlefield 3 tournament and excluded PC gamers. Yes, they actually excluded the main and original fan base of the series. Have we come to expect more from EA? Not really.

Check out this video interview where Felicia Day talks about Dragon Age: Redemption and Mark of the Assassin.

Eurogamer Expo 2011 kicked off September 22nd through the 25th. One highlight of this years Eurogamer Expo was the release of Star Wars: The Old Republic’s release date. Watch the video of the announcement here. Eurogamer will return in 2012.

You might want to read the EA/Origin Terms of Service. It seems that EA is taking a very rough stance on cheaters. If you are caught using a cheat, access to ALL of your EA games will be revoked. I absolutely approve of this as long as Punkbuster is not used to decide who is or is not cheating.

IGN has released hour long footage of the Diablo 3 beta. Here’s a playlist on YouTube. The game has been delayed until early 2012. I guess those who dreamed of making a career out of selling D3 loot will have to wait.

The same company that created Just Cause 2 have created a pretty decent wildlife hunting game. Check out The Hunter.

Just when I thought the world was rid of Dead Island headlines it appears that Lionsgate is interested in making a movie. Somehow I foreseeUwe Boll directing the film. Personally I would prefer Romero.

Today in Gaming: I know where you Quake!

Today in Gaming: I know where you quake!

Scrolls vs Elder Scrolls

What do you do when in a legal battle with Bethesda over your in-development project titled Scrolls (Bethesda owns the Elder Scrolls series)? Challenge them to a Quake match. Then you realize how ridiculous that was and change your mind. At least if you’re Minecraft’s Markus “Notch” Persson.

Battlefield 3

Battlefield 3 does not have an in-game browser, but the console version does. I don’t know if it’s EA or Dice making these decisions, but I’m willing to bet it’s all EA. EA is a corporate prick at best. I really have to wonder if EA purposefully tries to piss off it’s “fans”.

It looks like spotting in Battlefield 3 has been improved over it’s predecessors.

Star Wars: The Old Republic

EA will limit distribution of Star Wars: The Old Republic on launch day. If you intend on playing on launch day you might want to pre-order as soon as possible. I don’t agree that this is the right decision. It will only serve to anger more players. You don’t prevent launch day server congestion by limiting sales. You prepare. You ready adequate servers.

Free to Play: Kerbal Space Program and Orbiter Space Flight Simulator

I’m always on the search for neat little games to play around with especially when they are free. Today I stumbled on these two: Kerbal Space Program and Orbiter Space Flight Simulator.

Not the best video examples.
